Built at the turn of the 20th century, 530 Broadway is a unique property comprised of what was originally three adjacent structures on SoHo’s most coveted corner at Broadway and Spring.

The 198,000-square-foot site is an icon of SoHo’s Cast Iron district and features architectural details iconic to its locale. With an average floorplate of 17,000 square feet, each floor is flooded with natural light and air. This was revolutionary design when this area was an industrial district; now it’s ideal for companies seeking a downtown New York City atmosphere.

Purchased in March 2020, SHVO is merging the artistic spirit of the neighborhood with deliberate design and bespoke art. Snarkitecture was commissioned to reimagine the lobby by infusing unexpected and memorable moments, including a site-specific art installation curated by acclaimed New York-based contemporary artist Daniel Arsham. L’Observatoire International brings their celebrated lighting design to the building, highlighting the intricate cast-iron exterior and unique architectural details.

The lobby was awarded the NYCxDESIGN Award 2022 in the small commercial lobby category. Presented by Interior Design
Magazine, the awards honor outstanding projects in design and architecture.

Snarkitecture is a New York-based collaborative design practice established to investigate the boundaries between disciplines. The name is drawn from Lewis Carroll’s The Hunting of The Snark, a poem describing the “impossible voyage of an improbable crew to find an inconceivable creature.” In its search for the unknown, Snarkitecture creates work that includes large-scale projects, installations and objects. Snarkitecture’s work focuses on the reinterpretation of everyday materials, structures and programs to new and imaginative effect. With a conceptual approach centered on the importance of experience, the studio creates unexpected and memorable moments that invite people to explore and engage with their surroundings.

Daniel Arsham is a New York-based artist who blurs the boundaries of art, architecture and performance. Born in Miami, Arsham attended The Cooper Union in New York City, where he received the Gelman Trust Fellowship Award in 2003. Architecture remains a prevalent subject throughout his work, whether it means environments with eroded walls and stairs that lead nowhere, landscapes where nature overrides structure, or a general sense of playfulness within existing architecture. Arsham makes architecture do things it is not supposed to do, mining everyday experiences for opportunities to confuse and challenge people’s expectations of space and form.
